THE CARNIVAL RIDE

Prophetic Dream Given the Night of November 29, 2000

________________________________________________________________________________________

It had been several months since I had had a prophetic dream, but I found this to be such because:

1.      It had the symbolism consistent with prophetic dreams.

2.      It had the intensity experienced with prophetic dreams.

3.      It persisted in drawing my attention.

4.      It had a message for me.

5.      I had just the day before asked the Lord to resume prophetic dreaming.

THE DREAM

The night was dark, cold, and eerie.  I found myself on a carnival ride that went both up and down and round and round.  I was sitting on the outside of the car I was riding in, and found myself so crowded as to be fearful of falling out—the car had no outer railing.  I was sleeping, but only fitfully.  The ride seemed never ending.

When I looked to see why I felt so crowded, I found another adult next to me and three children beyond that person.  Although not specifically identified, they all seemed to be family members.

In desperation I finally asked the ride operator to stop the ride and let me get off.  He did so.

THE INTERPRETATION

For more than two years my life and ministry has seemed to be on hold.  I have referred to this period as being on the “desert,” but perhaps the carnival ride is a better way of putting it.  My life has had plenty of ups and downs (more downs than ups), but it has been going round and round and going nowhere.  A carnival ride represents a lack of substance, of those things that really count in life.

Negative events have crowded my life until it has been exceedingly uncomfortable.  It's been like a fitful sleep walk in a never-ending night.  Occasionally I have even been fearful of “falling out,” and without protection.

For more than two years everything I have turned my hand to in terms of ministry has seemed unfruitful.  More than that, it has been as though I faced a supernatural blockage.

Beyond the lack of ministry have been the trials.  Perhaps the other adult represents Bunnie and her serious health problems.  The “children” could represent the trouble coming to me from some of our mutual offspring.

The ride operator would represent God, or else the devil doing what God has allowed him to do.  As I mentioned, my repression has definitely been supernatural.  In my dream this “ride” came to an end.  Does this mean my desert experience is about to end?  Is Bunnie going to be healed, and the other problems be lessened or solved?

In the dream the initiative was mine, as I asked the operator to let me off.  Does this mean I am to precipitate matters?  How?  More quality time with the Lord?  More earnest prayer?  Should I continue to launch out in ministry?
