A VERIFIABLE MIRACULOUS HEALING

About two weeks before Christmas, my wife Anita became ill with what at first seemed to be a bad case of the flu.  However, the sickness progressed so rapidly that she was unable fully to participate in the holidays.  By the end of January she could no longer keep down food, or even water, and was in continual pain.  On a Friday I took her to a Portland hospital, where she was admitted.  Saturday morning a specialist performed an endoscopy.  This uncomfortable procedure consists of running a flexible tube, with tiny camera attached, down the esophagus into the stomach.  This was to determine whether Anita had a bleeding ulcer as anticipated.

I was invited to stand behind the physician and watch what the camera recorded, in living color, on a TV monitor.  Surprisingly, the stomach turned out to be in fine shape.  However, when the camera went through the pyloric valve into the duodenum it was a different story.  There the wall of the organ wasn’t a healthy pink color, but a sickly blue.  That meant the duodenum wasn’t receiving a blood supply, and was in the process of dying; a very serious situation.

In an attempt to determine why the duodenum was starved for blood, my wife next received an ultra-sound examination.  No help.  Next  she underwent a CAT scan.  Again, nothing.  Finally, late in the day, they performed an angiogram.  Strangely enough, this last procedure indicated there was nothing wrong with either the arterial or venous blood supply affecting the duodenum.  Still the organ was dying.

By this time, a team of five physicians was involved with the case, but they were completely baffled and unable to come up with a diagnosis.  With no diagnosis they decided not to attempt any kind of treatment, at least for a few hours.  Anita was merely given blood, and saline solution for rehydration.

About midnight on Saturday, one of the medical team told me bluntly that my wife was dying; she would not survive the weekend.   I put through calls to her children, and on Sunday they flew in to tell her goodbye.  We were prepared for the inevitable, and the only hope left to us was prayer.  My wife is a much beloved Christian lady, and by this  time literally hundreds of people were praying for her.

Anita received her death sentence Saturday night. Since she was still alive Monday morning, the team decided to do another endoscopy.  Once again I was invited to observe.  This time, when the endoscope was introduced into the duodenum, I heard the physician exclaim, “Well, would you look at that!”  I could see on the screen that the lining of the organ, instead of being a frightening blue, was now a healthy pink.  Immediately after the procedure was finished, the doctor asked my wife, “When do you want to go home?”  Her reply was prompt, “Right now!”  The necessary papers were signed, and my wife left the hospital that same day.

Because of the setting, this healing was, I believe, a very significant one.  Whenever you have an instantaneous, or nearly instantaneous healing, bounded before and after by a very precise medical procedure, and there has been no intervention by the medical profession, then I would consider it a denial of God’s healing power not to give Him the credit.  I feel comfortable in proclaiming that my wife received the same healing touch so many experienced in Palestine during the first century.

I further believe that, very soon, the Renewal now sweeping around the world will usher in a wave of healing to surpass even that which attended our Lord during his earthly sojourn.
