MISSILE ATTACK

Prophetic Dream Given the Night of December 3, 2001

THE DREAM

When the dream began I was in the water of a seaport harbor.  Although a barrier protected the harbor from the ocean, it was so low that I easily could look out to sea.  Going over to inspect the nearly invisible barrier, I found it to be of clear glass or plastic.  It was about 5 or 6 feet across, and only about a foot in height.  The front and back edges of the barrier were beveled.

The water at sea didn’t look much different from the water inside the harbor.  The surface wasn’t placid like a lake, but the movement of the water was so gentle that I could see all the way to the horizon.  The barrier continued across the mouth of the harbor, but its surface was a few feet below water level—not deep enough for anything to pass but individuals or very small boats.  With no difficulty I made my way through the opening and out to sea.  It seemed that my wife was nearby, but not right at my side.

There were a number of small boats at sea, but I myself was merely in the water.  However, I didn’t need to swim.  I floated easily on my back, but in a position more like sitting in a recliner.

Some distance away, two old-fashioned ships of war were under full sail, and dueling each other with cannon.  Then, from one of them, a modern missile was fired in my direction.  I could see it from the time it left the ship, and it grew larger in my sight as it approached me.  I wasn’t sure whether I was the target or not, but it whooshed by me just a foot or so away.  That missile was followed by four or five others, each just barely missing me.  It seemed as if I was able to avoid being hit by merely shifting my body slightly to one side or the other.

The dream ended at this point.

THE INTERPRETATION

I believe the harbor represents the safety of the “desert” I’ve known for some time now.  The fact that I was totally alone depicts the isolation I’ve been experiencing in ministry and contact with other Christians.

I’m not sure at this point how to understand my leaving the harbor, or whether that means leaving the desert.  The small boats at sea would represent various organized religions people are drawn to.  The fact that no ship of any size could get past the barrier into the harbor, perhaps means that there’s no real protection in the apparent safety of large religious organizations or big congregations.

My wife was nearby, but not right beside me.  Bunnie has found it difficult to accept the relative isolation of a house church, and feels drawn to more formal, organized religion.

I didn’t feel badly being alone, which is normal for my type of personality and for many Royal Advisors.

The two warships represent the forces of righteousness and darkness.  The fact that they were old vessels under sail shows that this battle has been going on for a long, long time.  The modern missiles, however, represent the accelerated spiritual warfare of our own day.  That the missiles seemed directed at me reminds me that each Christian is personally under attack from the forces of darkness.  However, nothing the enemy brings against us can succeed without the Lord’s permission.

Does this dream mean that I will be in danger if I leave the relative safety of the harbor (desert)?  Or does it mean that I will be leaving the harbor, and involved more directly in spiritual warfare?  At this point, I don’t know.
