A POWERFUL TESTIMONY

Don Hawley

Just the other day I received one of the most powerful testimonies I've ever heard. I won’t need to comment on it, as I believe it speaks for itself.

Note: The name I've used in the testimony is not the actual name of the person involved.

Two of my sons are members of a charismatic church, one of them is a pastoral intern. They see our church (Seventh-day Adventism) as a lost cause and have told me repeatedly, "Dad, get out before you die." The boys have always loved _________, and were there (in a SDA congregation holding special meetings) when the Holy Spirit fell. They thought it was unbelievable, and it was! When the Holy Spirit fell on their mother, we all hugged each other and wept for joy.

Last year, in November, __________’s 90-year-old mother was dying. I was on one side of her bed, and Jason was on the other side. I listened as Jason spoke to his dying grandmother. "Nanna, do you know Jesus?" She replied, "Jason, I’ve lived a good life." Jason responded, "Nanna, do you know Jesus?" The old lady replied, "Jason, people look up to me." Again, Jason asked," Nanna, do you know Jesus." This time Nanna said simply, "No."

At this point Jason led his grandmother to the Lord. "Now, Nanna, if you die tonight you will see Jesus." Minutes later a rainbow appeared over ___________Harbor. I unlocked mother’s bed and pushed it to the window, pointing to the rainbow. I said, "Look, mother, the rainbow of the promise of the presence of the Lord." As I said these words the powerful presence of the Holy Spirit flooded the room. Mother was amazed and kept asking me over and over again, "I've been an Adventist for 90 years, why haven’t I ever felt this presence before?" I told her that our traditions and false teachings had robbed her of what was rightfully hers. And, of course, not only had Nanna been robbed, but so had thousands of her brothers and sisters in the Lord. Sad, so very sad.
